Melvin Lee lived in the famous Chungking Mansions when he arrived in Hong Kong in 1992.
He was a university student at the time, later became a US diplomat, and has been to many countries.
In 2022, he came to Hong Kong as the Consul General.
After three years, he will go to work in Beijing.
Melvin Lee said he really likes the people and food in Hong Kong, especially wonton noodles and rice with two dishes.
He often goes to the market to buy vegetables and also likes to take minibuses.
He thinks Hong Kong is a great city, but there have been many changes recently, such as the new national security law and some media closures.
He said some people have been imprisoned for expressing their opinions, which makes him very sad.
Although US-China relations are sometimes tense, he has cooperated with the Hong Kong government on issues like fighting drugs and fraud.
Melvin Lee hopes Americans visiting Hong Kong will pay attention to the new rules here.
He said Hong Kong has changed, but there are still many things to like about it.
