Recently, the head of the US anti-doping agency said at a hearing that if Chinese swimmers really tested positive because they ate contaminated food, they would have had to eat about five kilograms of food before the competition, which is almost impossible.
In 2021, 23 Chinese swimmers tested positive in drug tests before the Olympics. Later, China said it was because the food in the hotel kitchen was contaminated. The World Anti-Doping Agency accepted this explanation and allowed these athletes to continue competing.
The US anti-doping agency believes this explanation is not credible because such drugs are usually prescription medications and would not appear in ordinary food.
Some US lawmakers also said that anti-doping management should be strengthened to ensure fair competition among athletes.
They hope that future international competitions held in the US, such as the World Cup and the Olympics, will not be affected by similar incidents.
