Many parts of Chinese history have been deleted or banned from public discussion.
Many important books, articles, and movies cannot be viewed in China.
Historian Ian Johnson created a website called the 'Chinese People's Archives' to collect these banned historical materials, allowing more people to see them.
They have collected a lot of materials about China's recent seventy years of history, such as the Anti-Rightist Movement, the Great Famine, the Cultural Revolution, and the 1989 Tiananmen Incident.
The goal of this website is to let Chinese people and Chinese communities around the world understand the true history.
Although independent voices in China are fewer than before, many people are still working hard to record and share history.
This archive hopes to help everyone better understand China's past and present, and also hopes overseas Chinese can use these materials to think about China's future.
