Why It Is Difficult for China-US Trade Negotiations to Reach a Comprehensive Agreement
zuì jìn 最近 ， zhōng 中 měi 美 liǎng 两 guó 国 zài 在 ruì shì 瑞士 rì nèi wǎ 日内瓦 kāi shǐ 开始 le 了 xīn 新 de 的 mào yì 贸易 tán pàn 谈判 。
Recently, China and the United States started new trade negotiations in Geneva, Switzerland.
liǎng 两 guó 国 tóng yì 同意 zàn tíng 暂停 bù fèn 部分 guān shuì 关税 90 tiān 天 ， zhè 这 ràng 让 hěn 很 duō 多 rén 人 gǎn dào 感到 yì wài 意外 。
The two countries agreed to suspend some tariffs for 90 days, which surprised many people.

The US reduced some tariffs on Chinese goods, and China also reduced tariffs on American goods and canceled some non-tariff measures.
liǎng 两 guó 国 hái 还 jué dìng 决定 jì xù 继续 tán pàn 谈判 ， xī wàng 希望 jiǎn shǎo 减少 mào yì 贸易 mó cā 摩擦 。
The two countries also decided to continue negotiations, hoping to reduce trade friction.
suī rán 虽然 yǒu 有 le 了 jìn zhǎn 进展 ， dàn 但 yào 要 dá chéng 达成 quán miàn 全面 de 的 mào yì 贸易 xié yì 协议 hái shì 还是 hěn 很 nán 难 。

The US hopes China will allow the renminbi to float freely, open its market, make it easier for American companies to enter China, and also hopes China will relax capital flows.
dàn 但 zhōng guó 中国 zhèng fǔ 政府 bù 不 yuàn yì 愿意 zhè yàng 这样 zuò 做 ， yīn wèi 因为 zhè 这 kě néng 可能 huì 会 ràng 让 zhōng guó 中国 jīng jì 经济 biàn 变 ruò 弱 ， shī qù 失去 hěn 很 duō 多 gōng zuò 工作 jī huì 机会 ， yě 也 huì 会 yǐng xiǎng 影响 guó jiā 国家 ān quán 安全 。
But the Chinese government is unwilling to do this because it might weaken China's economy, cause many job losses, and affect national security.

Therefore, the trade dispute between China and the US may continue.
