The U.S. President has nominated George Glass as the new U.S. Ambassador to Japan.
Glass said that the U.S.-Japan relationship is very important and there are many opportunities for cooperation.
He stated that if he becomes ambassador, he will work hard to ensure Japan continues to support security in the Indo-Pacific region and the U.S. military.
He also hopes Japan can increase its defense budget to help both countries protect regional peace together.
Glass mentioned that Japan and the U.S. should strengthen supply chains together, especially in important minerals and high-tech fields, to reduce dependence on China.
He also said that the U.S. and Japan should cooperate in new technologies such as artificial intelligence and semiconductors.
Members of the U.S. Congress also believe that the U.S. and Japan are good friends and should face challenges from countries like China and North Korea together.
Glass expressed that he will work with Japan to make the relationship between the two countries stronger and protect their security and interests.
