A Chinese researcher named Han Chengxuan from Wuhan was arrested in the United States.
She was accused of bringing biological materials from China to the US for use in a laboratory at the University of Michigan.
When Han Chengxuan was inspected at the airport, she did not truthfully declare the packages and biological materials she was carrying.
Later, she admitted that the package contained biological substances related to nematodes and that she lied during the inspection.
Recently, two other Chinese researchers were also investigated by US police for bringing harmful fungi into the United States.
This type of fungus affects crops like wheat and corn and poses a significant threat to agriculture.
American universities and the government stated that they will cooperate with the investigation to protect national security.
The Chinese government said it hopes Chinese citizens will obey local laws when abroad.
