A White House official said the US-Japan alliance is stronger than before and will continue to protect Japan.
He said the US President and Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi have a good relationship.
In a speech to the parliament, Takaichi warned that China has increased military activities in the East China Sea, South China Sea, and Taiwan Strait, using force and pressure to change the status quo, creating a severe security environment for Japan.
She proposed updating defense strategies, raising the defense budget to 2% of GDP, strengthening military production, making arms exports easier, streamlining supply chains to reduce dependence, and establishing intelligence meetings.
She believes China's actions around the Taiwan Strait could affect Japan's security.
A Chinese representative also said at the United Nations that if Japan intervenes in the Taiwan issue, it would be considered an 'invasion'.
Takaichi previously said that if an emergency occurs in Taiwan, Japan might legally take collective self-defense measures.
Afterwards, China-Japan relations became more tense.
Both the US and Japan oppose changing the status quo by force or coercion.
