Venezuelan opposition politician María Corina Machado won the 2025 Nobel Peace Prize.
She is the first person from Venezuela to win a Nobel Prize and the second woman from Latin America to receive this award.
Machado was recognized for leading nationwide election monitoring during the 2024 presidential election.
Together with many volunteers, she documented problems in the election and helped people understand the true voting results.
Although she cannot appear publicly now for safety reasons and can only communicate online, she still encourages people to express their ideas peacefully.
Machado said this award belongs to everyone who works for democracy.
Her winning the prize has brought more attention to democracy and freedom in Venezuela.
