After U.S. President Trump met with Chinese President Xi Jinping in Beijing, both the U.S. and China released information about the talks.
Both sides said they discussed economic and trade cooperation and some international issues, and that American businesspeople also took part in the meeting.
However, the two countries emphasized different points in their announcements.
The White House focused more on economic and security issues, such as making it easier for U.S. companies to enter the Chinese market, increasing Chinese investment in the United States, fentanyl, purchases of U.S. farm products, energy security, and the Iran issue.
Chinese media, on the other hand, focused more on the Taiwan issue and the long-term development of relations between the two countries.
Xinhua said Xi Jinping stated that China-U.S. economic and trade relations should be mutually beneficial and win-win, and that when differences arise, the two sides should consult on an equal footing.
On Taiwan, Xinhua said it is a very important issue in China-U.S. relations, and if it is handled well, relations between the two countries will be more stable.
The White House's announcement did not mention Taiwan.
This shows that although both China and the United States said the same meeting went well, the things each side cares about most are not exactly the same.
