The resolution said that workers should not be used as tools in struggles between major powers, that unions should help workers and communities harmed by war, and that they should also promote an end to wars that damage workers’ lives, safety, and rights.
Regarding Gaza, they called for an immediate and lasting ceasefire, safe entry of humanitarian aid, and the use of international law to promote a just and lasting peace.
The organization also opposes using fear, xenophobia, and anti-immigrant rhetoric to divide workers, and supports fair treatment for refugees and immigrants.
Although American unions often focus more on domestic issues, and some leaders in the past supported war, for more than a hundred years there have also been many union leaders who supported peace and opposed war.
