These remarks portray women as people who are not suitable for taking part in politics, journalism, and public discussion, and treat caring for the family as the only thing women should do.
Women who experience domestic violence or go missing are also blamed and mocked, and sometimes even girls become targets.
The continued presence of this kind of language may make discrimination and violence seem normal and may make women afraid to express their opinions publicly.
A small number of comments also oppose violence and call for respect, fairness, and equality.
To protect online spaces for discussion, media outlets and social media platforms need to actively review comments and promptly address content that contains threats, insults, or justifications for violence.
