Multiple media outlets report that China is not allowing the two founders of the AI company Manus to leave the country.
According to reports, they were called in for questioning by relevant authorities this month and were then told that because they are under investigation, they cannot leave the country but can travel within China.
Manus was founded by a Chinese team and is headquartered in Singapore. It recently launched an AI product that has attracted much attention.
At the end of last year, the US tech company Meta announced plans to acquire Manus. In January this year, China's Ministry of Commerce said it would investigate whether the deal complies with relevant laws.
A committee of the US House of Representatives later stated that this incident shows the Chinese government's significant influence over tech companies and has increased attention on US-China competition in AI.
