The United States says China deliberately uses World War II documents to pressure Taiwan, but these documents do not determine Taiwan's final status.
The American Institute in Taiwan states that China distorts the contents of the Cairo Declaration, the Potsdam Proclamation, and the San Francisco Treaty.
The United States believes these documents do not say Taiwan must belong to China.
The United States also says China wants to isolate Taiwan in the international community.
Taiwan's Foreign Minister thanks the United States for its support and says Taiwan and China are not subordinate to each other.
China opposes the United States' statements.
Historically, after World War II, Japan gave up sovereignty over Taiwan but did not clearly state to whom Taiwan belongs.
Currently, Taiwan has its own government and democratic system.
The United States says it will continue to support Taiwan, support peace in the Taiwan Strait, and does not want anyone to change the status quo by force.
The United States will also uphold the 'One China' policy but will maintain contact with Taiwan.
