The Mu Us Desert in northwest China used to be a vast desert with strong winds and lots of sand.
Twenty-five years ago, there were very few plants here.
Later, many university students and teachers came here to plant trees and grass.
They come every spring and summer to study how to make the desert green.
They collect samples of soil, plants, and small animals, record data, and help scientists find better methods.
Now, there are more and more green plants here, and the desert has turned into a beautiful grassland.
The researchers work very hard; sometimes it is very hot in summer and very cold in winter, but they keep working persistently.
A student named Nong Haojun said his favorite plant is the Nitraria because it can grow in the desert and protect other plants like a warrior.
Everyone feels proud that the desert has turned green.
