After nuclear weapons appeared, people soon realized that they were not only powerful weapons, but could also bring disaster to all humanity.

Today, a small number of countries possess large numbers of nuclear weapons and continue to spend more money producing and modernizing them.

At the same time, some international agreements limiting nuclear weapons have expired, and leaders of some countries have even openly threatened other countries with nuclear war, causing the danger to keep rising.

In the past, many ordinary people, scientists, and civic organizations held events calling for the reduction and prohibition of nuclear weapons.

Public pressure led some governments to sign agreements and also encouraged most countries not to develop nuclear weapons.

Later, anti-nuclear activities gradually weakened, and the forces supporting the expansion of weapons became strong again.

Although the United Nations adopted a treaty banning nuclear weapons and many countries expressed support, most nuclear-armed countries have not joined it.

There are no real winners in a nuclear war. If one occurs, cities, the natural environment, and countless lives will all suffer severe harm.

To reduce this danger, countries need to stop making threats, resume negotiations, and protect security through cooperation rather than an arms race.
