Indian media reported that the Indian government has reopened the processing of tourist visas to Chinese citizens worldwide.
This is seen as a new sign of the continued warming of China-India relations.
In July this year, India resumed issuing tourist visas to Chinese tourists for the first time in five years, but it was limited to application centers within China, such as Beijing, Shanghai, and Guangzhou.
This time, India has expanded the scope to all its embassies and consulates abroad, allowing Chinese tourists to apply for Indian tourist visas worldwide.
However, some travel agencies say that the visa process for Chinese tourists in India is still relatively complicated, and the review time is long, so whether the approval rate for Chinese tourists will increase remains to be seen.
Some industry insiders also say that because the procedures are troublesome, many tourists choose other countries.
Besides visa issues, the Indian tourism industry also needs to solve some practical difficulties, such as providing services more suitable for Chinese tourists, increasing Chinese-speaking tour guides, improving safety measures at attractions, and enabling more hotels to offer Chinese food or Chinese menus.
Some tourism experts say that after the resumption of visas and direct flights, some Chinese tourists have indeed started to consider traveling to India again.
But a significant increase in numbers in the short term is unlikely.
Only by continuing to improve service quality and safety can India truly attract more Chinese tourists.
