US President Trump said that the US and Israel launched a joint military operation against Iran, and on the first day of the operation, Iran's Supreme Leader Khamenei was killed.
He stated on social media that the operation might last a week or longer until the objectives are achieved, hoping for more peace in the Middle East and the world.
Trump also called on the Iranian people to 'take over the government' after the airstrikes, seeing it as an opportunity for the Iranian people to change their country.
He said Khamenei had long been unable to evade intelligence tracking, and some other Iranian leaders also died in the operation.
Trump said that some members of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard, military, and police who do not want to continue fighting can choose to accept immunity protection; if they do not, the consequences will be severe.
He also said he hopes these forces can work with 'patriots' to peacefully make Iran strong again.
Khamenei has served as Iran's highest political and religious leader for nearly 37 years.
