In Rakhine State, Myanmar, the Rohingya and Rakhine Buddhists once lived together.
In 2017, the Myanmar military and government drove many Rohingya out of Rakhine State, and many fled to Bangladesh.
Now, most of Rakhine State's population is Buddhist, and there are very few Rohingya.
Rakhine Buddhists want more rights and even seek independence.
The Rohingya actually only want citizenship and the right to live in their homeland; they do not want to split the country.
Historically, the Rohingya have always lived here, but the Myanmar government considers them outsiders.
Because of war and conflict, many Rohingya were forced to leave their homes.
Now, many believe that if the Rohingya can return to Rakhine State and gain citizenship, Rakhine State and Myanmar will be more stable.
