On May 26, China will chair an important UN Security Council meeting on upholding the purposes and principles of the UN Charter.
At present, the situation in Southwest Asia is tense. The risk of war involving Iran is making the Middle East even more dangerous and could also affect the world economy.
Some people have suggested that if we truly want long-term peace, we cannot rely only on negotiations between two countries; we need a comprehensive plan with participation from the whole region.
This plan has four parts: first, establish an international cooperation mechanism in the Strait of Hormuz; second, reach a new arrangement on the nuclear issue, support the peaceful use of nuclear energy, and reduce the risk of nuclear weapons; third, build a regional security cooperation system to increase mutual trust; fourth, promote the establishment of a Palestinian state and reduce conflict.
At the same time, there is also the idea of “peace through development”: strengthen cooperation from India to the Mediterranean and from the Caucasus to the Gulf, govern deserts, and build transport and development corridors so that Southwest Asia can once again become an important region connecting Asia, Africa, and Europe.
The proposer believes that if countries have more economic cooperation and shared development, war will be less likely to happen.
This plan, which promotes peace and development together, is worth serious consideration by all countries.
