On December 11, multiple South Korean media outlets reported that singer PSY is being investigated by Seoul police over prescription issues related to psychiatric drugs.
The police have already searched his company and vehicle, and confiscated his mobile phone for evidence.
He may be called again in the future to provide further explanations.
Reports say that from 2022 until now, PSY obtained psychiatric drugs multiple times from a hospital without following the required face-to-face consultations with doctors, and some medications were collected by his manager on his behalf.
The hospital stated that it is currently investigating the matter.
In August this year, PSY's management company publicly apologized, admitting that having the manager collect prescription drugs was inappropriate.
They explained that PSY has long had sleep problems and has been taking medication as prescribed by doctors, but denied any 'proxy prescription' practices.
South Korean regulations require face-to-face consultations before prescribing sleeping pills and other psychiatric drugs because these medications can be addictive.
The police are also investigating the doctor who prescribed the medication to him.
PSY became famous worldwide for 'Gangnam Style,' and his dance and music are loved by many.
This incident has therefore attracted considerable attention.
