Fuel prices in Nepal have been rising recently, making it one of the countries with the highest gasoline prices in South Asia.
In Kathmandu, gasoline has already risen to 219 Nepalese rupees per liter, and diesel is also very expensive.
Because conflicts involving the United States, Israel, and Iran have affected international oil transport, global oil prices have gone up. Nepal depends heavily on imported oil, so it has been hit hard.
When fuel prices rise, many other things also become more expensive.
Rice, vegetables, cooking gas, and transportation costs have all gone up, and many ordinary families feel that life has become harder.
The government has already cut some fuel taxes and is also trying to save fuel, for example by giving some offices two days off on weekends and reducing fuel use by officials.
But these measures are not very effective at the moment.
Many students and members of the public have gone out to protest, hoping the government will lower prices quickly and help everyone.
Some people worry that if fuel prices keep rising, transportation and work will both be affected.
Although Nepal has abundant hydropower and more and more electric vehicles, most trucks and long-distance buses still need diesel. So this fuel-price problem has made everyone see more clearly that the country needs to develop clean energy faster in the future.
