The U.S. Department of Justice said that an engineer living in California, Gong Chenguang, admitted that the Chinese government stole important technology from an American company.
This technology can help the U.S. detect and track missiles, and also allows American aircraft to detect and avoid dangerous missiles.
Gong Chenguang once worked at a company specializing in infrared sensors, and he secretly transferred many important company files to his own computer.
These files contained technology related to missile detection and aircraft protection.
The Department of Justice also said that when Gong Chenguang worked at several large American companies, he applied to China’s talent program, hoping to get funding to develop new technology.
He also traveled to China multiple times, intending to use this technology to help China develop military equipment.
Currently, Gong Chenguang is out on bail at home, and a judge will decide in September how many years he will be sentenced to prison.
He may be sentenced to ten years in prison.
