The U.S. Central Intelligence Agency posted a short video in Mandarin online, hoping to attract Chinese soldiers to contact them and become informants.
The video tells a story about a fictional soldier: he discovers during a military meeting that some leaders only care about their own interests and may be corrupt, which disappoints him.
He thinks about his family, worries about his daughter's future, and does not want bad people to decide everyone's life.
Later, he drives away and uses a computer to contact the CIA through an anonymous system.
At the end of the video, it says 'The fate of the world is in your hands,' and the CIA logo appears.
Within two days of the video being online, it had over one million views on YouTube.
The CIA said they have released Chinese videos before, taught people how to contact safely, emphasized that they evaluate information, and try their best to protect the safety of contacts.
