U.S. President Trump and Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi held a brief meeting.

The two said that the United States and Japan will continue to strengthen cooperation in areas such as security, artificial intelligence, semiconductors, and critical minerals.

Trump praised Japan’s strong economic development and also recognized Takaichi’s leadership abilities.

Takaichi thanked the United States for supporting the U.S.-Japan alliance.

She said that the security environment in Asia is becoming increasingly complex, and that this meeting can show the world that U.S.-Japan relations remain very strong.

She also hoped to explain Japan’s views on China and Taiwan before the U.S. president meets with China’s leader.

Japan is concerned that the United States and China may reach a new arrangement on the Taiwan issue.

China considers Taiwan to be part of China, while Taiwan’s government says that Taiwan’s future should be decided by the people of Taiwan.

Takaichi also plans to give a speech at the United Nations, introducing Japan’s ideas on regional cooperation, energy supplies, and new technologies.
