Before Power Learns to Stop
dāng 当 yí gè 一个 qiáng guó 强国 bǎ 把 hōng zhà 轰炸 jiào zuò 叫作 “ wěn dìng 稳定 ” ， bǎ 把 jūn shì jī dì 军事基地 jiào zuò 叫作 “ zì yóu 自由 ” ， bǎ 把 wēi xié 威胁 jiào zuò 叫作 “ bǎo hù 保护 ” shí 时 ， yǔ yán 语言 jiù 就 bù zài 不再 zhǐ shì 只是 shuō míng 说明 zhàn zhēng 战争 ， ér shì 而是 zài 在 wèi 为 zhàn zhēng 战争 kāi lù 开路 。
When a powerful country calls bombing “stability,” military bases “freedom,” and threats “protection,” language is no longer just describing war; it is paving the way for war.
suǒ yǐ 所以 ， zhè 这 chǎng 场 zhàn zhēng 战争 yào 要 zài 在 tā 它 biàn chéng 变成 “ méi bàn fǎ 没办法 bì miǎn 避免 ” yǐ qián 以前 tíng xià lái 停下来 。
So this war must be stopped before it becomes “unavoidable.”
měi guó 美国 lì liàng 力量 gèng 更 dà 大 ， suǒ yǐ 所以 zé rèn 责任 yě 也 gèng 更 dà 大 。
The United States has greater power, so it also has greater responsibility.
dà guó 大国 bù néng 不能 zhǐ 只 kào 靠 shēng qì 生气 hé 和 chōng dòng 冲动 zuò 做 jué dìng 决定 ， ér 而 yào 要 xiān 先 xiǎng 想 qīng chǔ 清楚 hòu guǒ 后果 。
A major power cannot make decisions based only on anger and impulse; it must first think through the consequences.
yīn wèi 因为 zhàn zhēng 战争 yī 一 kāi shǐ 开始 ， shòu kǔ 受苦 de 的 bù 不 zhǐ shì 只是 yí gè 一个 dì fāng 地方 。
Because once war begins, it is not only one place that suffers.
yī lǎng 伊朗 bú shì 不是 wéi yī 唯一 de 的 wèn tí 问题 ， é luó sī 俄罗斯 、 zhōng guó 中国 、 yìn dù 印度 、 bā jī sī tǎn 巴基斯坦 yě 也 dōu 都 zài 在 kàn 看 ， yě 也 dōu 都 huì 会 shòu dào 受到 yǐng xiǎng 影响 。
Iran is not the only issue. Russia, China, India, and Pakistan are all watching, and they will all be affected too.
xiàn zài 现在 de 的 shì jiè 世界 hěn 很 fù zá 复杂 ， bù zài 不再 shì 是 yí gè 一个 guó jiā 国家 shuō le suàn 说了算 。
Today’s world is very complex; it is no longer a world where one country can decide everything.
yí gè 一个 dì fāng 地方 kāi huǒ 开火 ， kě néng 可能 ràng 让 gèng 更 duō 多 dì fāng 地方 jǐn zhāng 紧张 qǐ lái 起来 。
When one place opens fire, it may make more places tense.
zhēn zhèng 真正 de 的 qiáng dà 强大 ， bú shì 不是 xiǎng 想 dǎ 打 jiù 就 dǎ 打 ， ér shì 而是 míng míng 明明 yǒu 有 néng lì 能力 dòng shǒu 动手 ， yě 也 zhī dào 知道 shén me shí hòu 什么时候 gāi 该 tíng xià 停下 。
True strength is not striking whenever you want; it is having the ability to act and also knowing when to stop.
wài jiāo 外交 bú shì 不是 ruǎn ruò 软弱 ， kè zhì 克制 yě 也 bú shì 不是 rèn shū 认输 ， tā men 它们 shì 是 zài 在 wēi xiǎn 危险 shí hòu 时候 bǎo hù 保护 dà jiā 大家 de 的 fāng fǎ 方法 。
Diplomacy is not weakness, and restraint is not surrender. They are ways to protect everyone in dangerous times.
lì shǐ 历史 yǐ jīng 已经 gào sù 告诉 wǒ men 我们 ， yuè nán 越南 、 yī lā kè 伊拉克 、 ā fù hàn 阿富汗 hé 和 lì bǐ yà 利比亚 dōu 都 ràng 让 hěn 很 duō rén 多人 fù chū 付出 hěn 很 dà 大 dài jià 代价 。
History has already shown us that Vietnam, Iraq, Afghanistan, and Libya have made many people pay a heavy price.
rén lèi 人类 bù 不 xū yào 需要 zài 再 lái 来 yī cháng 一场 shì hòu 事后 cái 才 jiě shì 解释 lǐ yóu 理由 de 的 zhàn zhēng 战争 ， ér shì 而是 yào 要 zài 在 zāi nàn 灾难 biàn 变 dà 大 yǐ qián 以前 ， xiān 先 tíng xià lái 停下来 。
Humanity does not need another war that is explained only after the fact; it needs to stop before the disaster grows larger.
