China and Bangladesh recently discussed a plan: to build an overland trade corridor through Myanmar so that trade between the two countries can move faster.
For Bangladesh, if this route can be built, exports would become easier, and it could also help economic development.
However, this plan is now facing many difficulties.
First, the civil war in Myanmar is still going on, and the situation is very unstable.
Second, Bangladesh and Myanmar have had tense relations for many years because of the Rohingya issue.
Third, the Arakan Army now controls many border areas, and this corridor may have to pass through those areas, so the security risk is very high.
Even if the war becomes less intense in the future, this route may still not be safe.
Although this plan is hard to realize in the short term, China is willing to discuss it openly, which shows that China hopes to expand trade with Bangladesh and also wants to help Bangladesh's economy.
In the future, this may also give China greater influence in Bangladesh.
