Chinese citizen journalist Zhang Zhan has been sentenced to four more years in prison for "picking quarrels and provoking trouble."
Zhang Zhan is 42 years old this year. As early as 2020, she was sentenced for reporting from Wuhan during the early stages of the COVID-19 pandemic.
She had just completed a four-year sentence and was arrested again shortly after her release.
Many international human rights and press freedom organizations have expressed concern and dissatisfaction with her sentencing.
They believe Zhang Zhan was sentenced simply for reporting the truth, which is bad news for press freedom and human rights.
The United Nations human rights agency has called on the Chinese government to immediately release Zhang Zhan and hopes she can contact her family and lawyers and receive good medical care.
Amnesty International also said that the use of charges like "picking quarrels and provoking trouble" to punish journalists should stop.
Zhang Zhan went on a hunger strike to protest during her first imprisonment, which affected her health.
Currently, China is one of the countries in the world that imprisons the most journalists.
Many people hope Zhang Zhan can regain her freedom soon.
