Chinese artificial intelligence company Moonshot AI is discussing cooperation with the cloud platforms of Microsoft, Amazon, and Google. It hopes these platforms will offer its new model, Kimi K3, and share part of the revenue with the company.
Reports say the talks are still at an early stage, and they may not succeed in the end.
If the cooperation is reached, companies around the world could use this Chinese model directly through U.S. cloud platforms.
Kimi K3 has 2.8 trillion parameters and needs a great deal of computing resources to run. Ordinary companies find it difficult to install it themselves, so large cloud platforms are very important.
However, this matter has also raised concerns in the U.S. government.
U.S. officials have said that Moonshot AI may have learned from U.S. companies' models through “distillation” and may also have used restricted advanced chips.
Distillation means having a smaller model learn from the answers of a large model.
Moonshot AI has denied these claims.
Some people believe this cooperation could bring more users and revenue. Others worry that U.S. platforms could help Chinese AI companies enter the international market.
