tí gāo提高kǒu yǔ口语de的mì jué秘诀:duō多dú读“jiǎn dān简单”de的shū书
Do you have to find someone to practice speaking to improve your speaking skills?
A recent study gives a different answer.
The study found that if you often read articles that are "just the right difficulty," your speaking will improve even if you don't specifically practice speaking.
This study surveyed 90 language learners.
Over half a year, they read one AI-generated short article each week that they could understand about 80%.
These articles were not difficult and were easy to read.
After six months, researchers found that although these students mainly practiced reading, their speaking scores all improved.
Why does reading more improve speaking?
Participants said that vocabulary appeared in stories during reading, which is much easier than rote memorization.
By reading a lot, the brain accumulates many expression templates.
When you want to speak, you have ready-made sentences in your mind, making you more confident to speak.
This study tells us that the "fuel" for speaking is actually reading.
Instead of forcing yourself to read those difficult and obscure classics you don't understand, it's better to find some simple and interesting short articles.
So, if you want to improve your speaking, why not start today by spending ten minutes a day reading some simple Chinese.
As long as the "fuel" is sufficient, your speaking will naturally become fluent.
