Recently, several high schools in Nanjing, Jiangsu Province, have changed their daily schedules.
Students now go to school later in the morning, and they also leave school earlier in the evening.
This change has been warmly welcomed by many parents and students.
In the past, many high school students had to rush to school before seven in the morning and did self-study until late at night before going home. They sometimes spent as many as fifteen hours a day at school.
Long hours of studying made many students feel tired, and they often did not get enough sleep.
Starting in November, many schools in Nanjing required students to arrive at school later, at 7:20 or 7:30 a.m.
At the same time, evening self-study classes now end earlier, between 9:00 and 9:30 p.m.
As a result, students can sleep an extra half hour in the morning and go to bed earlier at night.
Parents have expressed their support one after another.
One parent said that their child could finally sleep a little longer, felt much more energetic in the morning, and could concentrate better in class.
The local education authorities said that students’ physical health is the most important thing.
If students do not get enough rest, their learning will not be effective either.
In the future, the authorities will continue to strengthen management, reduce excessive homework, and prevent students from staying at school for too long.
Now, high schools in other cities in Jiangsu have also begun delaying their start times.
Everyone hopes that this change will allow high school students to study well, get a good night’s sleep, and grow up healthy.
