On August 15, 2025, South Korea celebrates the 80th anniversary of its liberation, a very important holiday for the country.
Liberation Day is celebrated by both South Korea and North Korea, as everyone commemorates the nation's freedom from Japanese rule.
To celebrate this special day, the Seoul city government held a Global Youth Peace Forum at City Hall, with 86 young people from 43 countries participating.
They also went together to Seoul Plaza to listen to a concert, which many citizens also attended.
At the forum, young scholars from different countries shared their nations' histories and talked about how their countries also experienced colonial rule.
Korea was under Japanese rule from 1910 to 1945; many people were forced to work and were not allowed to speak their own language.
Now, Koreans are very proud because they gained freedom through their efforts.
Every year on Liberation Day, South Korea displays the national flag everywhere, and people celebrate the country's progress and freedom together.
