On June 22, 2025, Ethiopians in South Korea held an event where they presented a congratulatory letter to the newly elected South Korean President Lee Jae-myung in front of the presidential office in Seoul.
During the event, everyone read the congratulatory letter together to express their best wishes to the new president.
Ethiopian residents, refugees, and asylum seekers also hope that the South Korean government will help Ethiopia achieve peace and democracy, protect human rights, and improve the lives of Ethiopian refugees in South Korea.
They also proposed to designate May 6 every year as "Ethiopia Day" to commemorate Ethiopian soldiers who helped South Korea during the Korean War in 1951.
The Ethiopians expressed that they will continue to support democracy, peace, and friendship between the two countries, hoping the new president will help Ethiopia become better.
