Pope Leo XIV of the Roman Catholic Church recently appointed a Chinese bishop named Lin Yuntuan.
Lin Yuntuan is 73 years old this year and has now become the auxiliary bishop of the Fuzhou Diocese.
His appointment has received approval from the Chinese government.
At the inauguration ceremony, Lin Yuntuan said he would obey Chinese laws, love his country and religion, and support the development of Catholicism in China.
The appointment of bishops has always been an important issue between the Vatican and China.
In the past, the two countries had many different views on bishop appointments.
In recent years, relations between the Vatican and China have improved.
In 2018, both sides began cooperating to discuss bishop appointments.
Now, Lin Yuntuan's appointment is seen as a new achievement in cooperation between the two countries.
Both the Pope and the Chinese government hope to promote better development of Catholicism in China through dialogue.
