The Hong Kong government has done many things to encourage more people to participate in the Legislative Council election.

This year, 161 candidates are running in the election, competing for different seats.

In recent years, voter turnout in Hong Kong has been declining.

In 2016, 58% of people voted; in 2019, it was 71%; but in 2021, only 30%, and it was even lower in 2023.

To encourage more people to vote, the government has done a lot of promotion, such as using interesting videos and asking companies to give employees half a day off to vote.

The day before the election, the government also holds free concerts, hoping to attract people to vote.

The police have also arrested some people who encouraged others online not to vote.

Many people feel that if voter turnout is low, the government will be embarrassed because they have put in a lot of effort.

Macau's voter turnout this year was 53%, higher than Hong Kong's.

Hong Kong officials also went to Macau to learn how to get more people to vote.
