The "Loong" Year: Changes in Chinese Translation and Culture
2024nián年shì是zhōng guó中国de的 “lóng龙nián年 ” ，dàn但zhōng guó中国guān fāng官方méi tǐ媒体kāi shǐ开始yòng用 “ Loong ”zhè gè这个cí词lái来dài tì代替 “ dragon ” 。

"Loong" is a transliteration of the Chinese word "龙" (dragon), not a common English word.

Chinese media say that the Western "dragon" is often a bad monster, but the Chinese "龙" is a lucky and sacred animal.

Interestingly, in Hong Kong, the word "Loong" has become an internet slang. Some use it jokingly, saying "Loong" sounds like "alone" or "loan," and some use it to describe losing money in the stock market.
