Chinese authorities announced that former Central Military Commission Vice Chairman Zhang Youxia and former Chief of Staff of the CMC Joint Staff Department Liu Zhenli have been expelled from the Communist Party and the military.
Officials said the two violated political discipline, formed a small group with others, were disloyal to the Party, and used their authority at work to help others gain benefits. The corruption involved was said to be especially large in amount.
However, officials did not disclose the specific amount of money involved or evidence from the investigation.
Issues involving suspected crimes by the two will be handed over to military prosecutors.
In January this year, the Ministry of National Defense began investigating the two; in August, they were removed from their positions in the Central Military Commission.
Zhang Youxia was previously a very high-ranking military officer and also had combat experience, so his case has received much attention.
After several investigations and removals from office, only Xi Jinping and Vice Chairman Zhang Shengmin remain publicly in office from what was originally a seven-member Central Military Commission.
