How Culture Influences Us
shàng zhōu上周 ，wǒ men我们jiē接wǔ suì五岁de的ér zi儿子fàng xué放学huí jiā回家 。
Last week, we picked up our five-year-old son from school.
tā他zài在lù shàng路上hěn很zì háo自豪dì地bèi背le了yī一shǒu首táng shī唐诗 《chūn wàng春望 》 。
He proudly recited a Tang dynasty poem called "Spring View" on the way home.
zhè这shǒu首shī诗shì是dù fǔ杜甫xiě写de的 ，yǐ jīng已经yǒu有yī一qiān千duō nián多年lì shǐ历史le了 。
This poem was written by Du Fu and is over a thousand years old.
suī rán虽然shī诗lǐ里shuō说de的shì是zhàn zhēng战争hé和sī xiāng思乡 ，bú shì不是hěn很qīng sōng轻松de的huà tí话题 ，dàn但hái zi men孩子们bèi背shī诗bù不zhǐ shì只是wèi le为了nèi róng内容 ，gèng shì更是wèi le为了gǎn shòu感受shī诗de的jié zòu节奏 、yā yùn押韵hé和wén huà文化de的měi美 。
Although the poem talks about war and homesickness, which are not very light topics, children memorize poems not just for the content but also to feel the rhythm, rhyme, and beauty of the culture.
qí shí其实 ，cóng xiǎo从小wǒ men我们jiù就kāi shǐ开始xué xí学习zì jǐ自己de的wén huà文化 。
In fact, we start learning our own culture from a young age.
zhè这bú shì不是tōng guò通过guī zé规则 ，ér shì而是tōng guò通过shēng yīn声音 、biǎo dá表达 、qíng gǎn情感hé和xíng dòng行动màn màn慢慢xué huì学会de的 。
This learning is not through rules but gradually through sounds, expressions, emotions, and actions.
měi gè每个hái zi孩子yī一chū shēng出生 ，jiù就shēng huó生活zài在yǒu有zì jǐ自己xí guàn习惯hé和xiǎng fǎ想法de的huán jìng环境lǐ里 ，zhè这jiù shì就是wén huà文化 。
Every child is born into an environment with its own habits and ideas, and that is culture.

These habits begin forming from childhood and are hard to completely change.
